StorySiege Terms of Use
Last updated: November 2, 2026
These Terms of Use ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you and Further Theory, LLC ("Further Theory," "we," "us" or "our"). They govern your use of the StorySiege app, its content, our websites, and any related services (together, the "Service"). By downloading, opening, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
SECTION 13 CONTAINS A BINDING ARBITRATION AGREEMENT AND A CLASS ACTION WAIVER. IT REQUIRES MOST DISPUTES TO BE RESOLVED BY INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION, NOT IN COURT, AND WAIVES YOUR RIGHT TO A JURY TRIAL, UNLESS YOU OPT OUT WITHIN 30 DAYS AS DESCRIBED THERE.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian, who agrees to these Terms on your behalf and is responsible for your use of the Service and for any purchases. You may not use the Service where doing so is prohibited by law.
2. The content
StorySiege presents illustrated stories based on historical events for entertainment only. Stories condense, simplify, and dramatize events, and may include reconstructed scenes and dialogue. Illustrations are AI-generated artistic interpretations. They are not photographs or accurate depictions of any real person, place, or object. We do not guarantee that any story, date, number, name, quotation, or image is accurate, complete, or current. The Service is not a reference work or educational resource, and you should not rely on it as one. Some stories depict war, violence, death, and other disturbing events.
We may add, change, correct, remove, or move between free and paid access any story, chapter, illustration, or feature, at any time, for any reason, without notice and without liability to you.
3. Subscriptions and purchases
Premium. StorySiege Premium ("Premium") is an auto-renewing subscription that gives access to the content we choose to make available to subscribers while the subscription is active. We alone decide what Premium includes and what, if anything, is available for free, and either may change at any time. A subscription does not entitle you to any particular story, amount of content, feature, or future content.
Billing. Purchases are made through Apple's App Store and are processed by Apple under its terms. Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase. Your subscription renews automatically for the same period at the then-current price unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before the current period ends. We may change prices at any time. Price changes for existing subscriptions take effect under Apple's notice rules.
Free trials. If an offer includes a free trial, Apple decides who is eligible. Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, it converts automatically to a paid subscription and you will be charged.
Cancelling. You can cancel at any time in your Apple ID subscription settings (https://apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions) or from Menu > Account > Manage subscription in the app. Cancelling stops future renewals. You keep access until the end of the period you already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
No refunds. All payments are final and non-refundable. We do not provide refunds or credits for partial subscription periods, unused time, content changes or removals, or periods in which you did not use the Service, except where required by law. Apple controls refunds for App Store purchases, and we cannot issue them. You may ask Apple for a refund at https://reportaproblem.apple.com.
Restoring access. To restore a subscription, use Restore purchases in the app while signed in with the Apple ID used to buy it. Reading progress is stored only on your device and is not restored.
Earlier purchases. If you bought the launch collection or a subscription in an earlier version of the app, your access continues under the terms of that offer and these Terms, for as long as we continue to offer that content. The launch collection was a one-time purchase and does not renew.
4. License and ownership
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to use the Service on devices you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial entertainment. For the iOS app, this license applies in addition to Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/).
The Service is licensed, not sold. We and our licensors own all right, title, and interest in the Service, including all stories, text, illustrations, designs, software, names, logos, and trademarks. All rights not expressly granted to you are reserved.
5. Rules of use
You may not, and may not help or allow anyone else to:
- copy, reproduce, record, publish, sell, rent, distribute, publicly display, or create derivative works from the Service or its content, except by using the share features built into the app;
- extract, scrape, crawl, or harvest stories, text, or illustrations by any manual or automated means;
- use any part of the Service or its content to train, test, fine-tune, or improve any artificial intelligence or machine-learning system;
- decompile, disassemble, reverse engineer, or attempt to derive the source code of the app, except to the extent the law expressly permits despite this restriction;
- bypass, disable, or interfere with any paywall, purchase check, access control, or security feature;
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in any way that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair it; or
- remove, obscure, or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notice.
6. Feedback
If you send us ideas, suggestions, or other feedback, you assign to us all rights in that feedback. We may use it for any purpose, without restriction, payment, or credit to you.
7. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or end your access to all or part of the Service at any time, with or without notice, for any reason, including if we believe you have violated these Terms. We may change, suspend, or discontinue the Service, or any part of it, at any time without liability to you. Sections 2, 3 (No refunds), 4 (ownership), 5, 6, and 8 through 17 survive any termination.
8. Third-party services
The Service relies on third parties, including Apple, RevenueCat, and PostHog. Their services are governed by their own terms and policies. We are not responsible for them, and your use of them is at your own risk.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE SERVICE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, ACCURACY, AND QUIET ENJOYMENT, AND ANY WARRANTIES ARISING FROM COURSE OF DEALING OR USAGE OF TRADE. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR AVAILABLE ON ANY PARTICULAR DEVICE OR OPERATING SYSTEM, THAT DEFECTS WILL BE CORRECTED, OR THAT ANY CONTENT IS HISTORICALLY ACCURATE OR COMPLETE.
10. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, FURTHER THEORY, LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, MANAGERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AGENTS, LICENSORS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, READING PROGRESS, GOODWILL, OR USE, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY, OR ANY OTHER LEGAL THEORY, EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (B) US $50. THESE LIMITS APPLY EVEN IF ANY REMEDY FAILS OF ITS ESSENTIAL PURPOSE.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions or liability limits. Where that is the case, the exclusions and limits in Sections 9 and 10 apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11. Indemnity
You will defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Further Theory, LLC and its members, managers, employees, contractors, and agents from and against any claims, losses, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or relating to your misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of any third party.
12. Time limit for claims
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS MUST BE FILED WITHIN ONE YEAR AFTER THE CLAIM AROSE, OR IT IS PERMANENTLY BARRED.
13. Arbitration and class action waiver
Informal resolution first. Before starting any claim, you must email us at support@furthertheory.com with your name, a description of the claim, and the relief you want, and try in good faith to resolve it with us for at least 60 days. Any time limit to file the claim is paused during this period.
Agreement to arbitrate. Except as stated below, any dispute, claim, or controversy between you and us arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms, including their formation, interpretation, scope, validity, or enforceability ("Dispute"), will be resolved only by final and binding individual arbitration. The arbitration will be administered by the American Arbitration Association ("AAA") under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, as modified by these Terms. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this Section 13. The arbitrator decides all questions about the scope, validity, and enforceability of this agreement to arbitrate, except as stated under Class action waiver below. Unless the arbitrator requires an in-person hearing, the arbitration will be conducted by video conference or on written submissions. Any in-person hearing will take place in Boston, Massachusetts, unless the AAA rules require otherwise. Fees are paid as the AAA rules provide.
Exceptions. Either party may bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies. We may seek injunctive or other equitable relief in court to protect our intellectual property or to stop unauthorized use of the Service.
Class action waiver. YOU AND WE MAY BRING CLAIMS ONLY IN AN INDIVIDUAL CAPACITY, AND NOT AS A PLAINTIFF OR CLASS MEMBER IN ANY CLASS, COLLECTIVE, CONSOLIDATED, OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. YOU AND WE EACH WAIVE ANY RIGHT TO A JURY TRIAL. The arbitrator may not consolidate the claims of more than one person or preside over any class, collective, or representative proceeding. Only a court may decide whether this waiver is enforceable. If a court finds it unenforceable as to any claim, that claim must be severed and decided by a court after all other claims are resolved in individual arbitration.
Multiple filings. If 25 or more similar demands for arbitration are filed against us by or with the help of the same law firm or coordinated group, the AAA's rules for mass or multiple case filings will apply. To the extent those rules allow, the demands will be resolved in batches, and filing and administrative fees will be due only as each batch proceeds.
Opt-out. You may opt out of this Section 13 by emailing support@furthertheory.com within 30 days after you first accept these Terms. Include your name and a clear statement that you opt out of arbitration. Opting out does not affect any other part of these Terms.
Changes to this section. If we change this Section 13, the change will not apply to any Dispute that arose before the change took effect.
14. Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and by the Federal Arbitration Act. Any Dispute that is not subject to arbitration must be brought only in the state or federal courts located in Boston, Massachusetts. You and we consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts and waive any objection to venue there.
15. Apple
These terms apply when you use the iOS app:
- These Terms are between you and Further Theory, LLC only, and not with Apple Inc. ("Apple"). Further Theory, not Apple, is solely responsible for the app and its content.
- Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
- If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price of the app, if any. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs, or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to a warranty are governed by these Terms.
- Apple is not responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the app or your possession or use of it, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to conform to any legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy, or similar laws.
- If a third party claims that the app or your possession or use of it infringes that party's intellectual property rights, Further Theory, not Apple, is responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of that claim, to the extent required by these Terms.
- You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using the app.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept these Terms, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may change these Terms at any time by posting an updated version in the app or on our website with a new "Last updated" date. Changes take effect when posted, except as stated in Section 13. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Service and cancel any subscription.
17. General
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and any terms presented with a purchase, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service and replace any earlier agreements. If any provision is found unenforceable, it will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible, and the rest of these Terms will remain in effect. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver. You may not assign or transfer these Terms without our written consent. We may assign or transfer them without restriction, including in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. We are not liable for any delay or failure caused by events beyond our reasonable control. We may send you notices through the app or our website. You agree that electronic notices and agreements satisfy any requirement that they be in writing. Headings are for convenience only. "Including" means "including without limitation." Except for Apple as stated in Section 15, there are no third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. If these Terms are translated, the English version controls.
