StorySiege Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 2, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Further Theory, LLC ("Further Theory," "we," "us" or "our") collects, uses, and shares information through the StorySiege app, our websites, and related services (together, the "Service"). This policy is part of our Terms of Use. By using the Service, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Information we collect
Information stored on your device. The app stores your reading position, finished chapters, reading preferences, reminder settings, and a cached record of your purchase access on your device. We do not operate a StorySiege account system, and you do not need to sign in. The app does not ask for your name, email address, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or precise location.
Purchase information. When you buy or restore a subscription, or when the app checks your access, our purchase provider RevenueCat processes an app user identifier, purchase and subscription records, and technical information such as device and operating system details, IP address, and timestamps. This can happen even if you have never made a purchase. New users receive a random purchase identifier. For users updating from an older version of the app, the app may reuse an identifier already stored on the device so that earlier purchases are kept. Apple processes payments. We do not receive your full payment card number.
Usage information. We use PostHog to collect information about how the app is used. This includes when the app is opened; which stories and chapters are opened, started, left, and finished, and how far you read; when the subscription screen is viewed; and the steps of purchases and restores. These events include a random identifier stored on your device, a session identifier, timestamps, the app screen, and device and app details such as platform, operating system, and screen size. PostHog also receives your IP address.
Website information. When you visit our websites, our hosting providers may automatically collect standard request information, such as IP address, browser type, pages requested, referring page, and request times.
Information you send us. If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your name, email address, message, and any attachments. Do not send payment card details or sensitive personal information.
Reminders and sharing. Story reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. When you use Share, the app passes the selected text to your device's share sheet, or copies it to your clipboard where sharing is unavailable. The service you share with handles it under its own policies.
2. How we use information
We use information to provide, operate, and maintain the Service; verify, restore, and manage purchases and access; understand and analyze how the Service is used; develop, test, and improve the Service, its content, and its offers; respond to messages and support requests; prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access; enforce our Terms of Use and protect our rights and property; and comply with legal obligations.
We may create aggregated or de-identified information that does not identify you, and use and share it for any lawful purpose.
3. How we share information
We share information:
- with service providers that perform services for us, including RevenueCat (purchases), PostHog (usage analytics), and our hosting and email providers;
- with Apple, which processes App Store purchases under its own privacy policy;
- when you direct us to, such as when you use Share;
- in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or part of our business or assets, in which case information may be transferred to the buyer or successor; and
- when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to comply with law, legal process, or a government request; to enforce our Terms of Use; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Further Theory, our users, or others.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

4. Retention
We keep information for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy, including business, accounting, legal, and dispute purposes, or longer where required or permitted by law. Information stored on your device stays there until you reset it, delete the app, or your device removes it. Deleting the app does not delete information held by us or our service providers.
5. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information. However, no method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the security of any information. You provide information at your own risk.
6. International users
We are based in the United States. We and our service providers may process and store information in the United States and other countries, whose data protection laws may differ from those where you live. Where required by law, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
Where the law requires a legal basis for processing, we rely on the performance of our contract with you; our legitimate interests in operating, securing, analyzing, and improving the Service; compliance with legal obligations; and your consent where required. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time, without affecting processing that took place before.
7. Your choices and rights
Reset progress. Menu > About > Reset my progress erases the reading progress stored on your device. It does not delete your preferences, purchase records, purchase identifier, or usage identifier.
Reminders. You can turn off story reminders in the app or in your device settings.
Privacy requests. Depending on where you live, applicable law may give you rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information we hold about you, or to object to or restrict certain processing. To make a request, email support@furthertheory.com. We will respond as required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before acting, and we may decline or limit a request where the law allows. Because we do not operate user accounts, we may be unable to locate information about you unless you provide details such as your purchase receipt or identifier. Where applicable law gives you the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, you may do so. Apple handles requests about information that Apple controls.
8. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact us.
9. Changes to this policy
We may change this policy at any time by posting an updated version in the app or on our website with a new "Last updated" date. Changes take effect when posted. If you keep using the Service after a change takes effect, you accept the updated policy. Where the law requires additional notice or consent for a change, we will provide it.
